Until recently, there was no comprehensive survey of insect biodiversity in tropical rainforest canopies, but an international team of entomologists has now taken the first major step toward creating one, with a surprising result along the way. The team sampled canopy insects from over 40 sites across three continents. Instead, the researchers found that a relatively small number of highly adaptable species dominated canopy communities almost everywhere they looked.
