All eyes will be on Newbridge on March 3, 2029, at the opening of one of the largest technology expositions in the world: the World Innovation Fair. Newbridge will join Geneva and Singapore as one of only three cities to host the fair twice, having previously held it in 2011. The city is racing to get ready. Public and private investment is pouring in to prepare the venues, transport links, and accommodation required to host the fair, which is expected to attract about 6 million visitors and $4 billion in revenue for the surrounding region. The fair is projected to create more than 40,000 temporary jobs. It is, in economic terms, both a risk and an opportunity. Some Newbridge residents worry about the disruption and expense involved, arguing it would be wiser to invest those funds in upgrading ageing public transport and building affordable housing. However, the organising committee insists the event will bring lasting infrastructure improvements, international recognition, and economic growth to the whole region, and most residents currently support the fair.
Why do some Newbridge residents question the value of hosting the fair?
Neden?
